  • 1 tsp high-quality matcha powder
  • 2 oz hot water not boiling, around 175°F/80°C
  • 6 oz milk dairy or non-dairy alternatives
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup optional
  • Ice cubes for iced matcha latte variation

Instructions

  • Sift the matcha powder into a bowl to remove clumps.
  • Add hot water and whisk using a bamboo whisk (chasen) in a zig-zag motion until frothy.
  • Heat the milk until warm, then froth using a milk frother or whisk.
  • Pour the frothed milk over the whisked matcha.
  • Add a sweetener if desired, stir gently, and enjoy.
  • For an iced version, pour the whisked matcha over ice and add cold frothed milk.

Notes

  • Naturally gluten-free and can be made vegan with plant-based milk.
  • Best enjoyed in the morning or as an afternoon pick-me-up.
  • Use ceremonial-grade matcha for a more vibrant and smooth flavor.
  • Avoid boiling water as it can make the matcha taste bitter.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste or enjoy unsweetened.
